Truman Forensic Union: Barnett Hall Squadroom Construction

The Squadroom is Finished!!!

Click here to watch the video tour of the new facility.

The new Forensic Union squadroom is well on its way toward completion. These pictures were taken on November 5. While delayed, we still anticipate completion of the complex and arrival of furniture sometime this semester. Check back here periodically for more photographic updates.

Yea! We finally got our sign!   This is what you'll see as you enter the squadroom. The wood bookcases to the right are one of the few pieces of furniture that came with us from Kirk Memorial. The TV console at the left is temporary, and we expect our flat panel to be installed on the wall at the left sometime this semester. There will also be two couches and other furniture in the open area.

Yes, we've won a few things. This case contains the spoils of the NPDA and NFA national championships since 2000, among a few other pretty pieces of silver and glass.   The Director of Forensics' office does need the occasional cleaning, and this week is no exception; but it does look a good deal better than when this was just drywall.

This is a view of the Conference Room from the main squadroom. The door in the back has been nicknamed the Steam Pipe Trunk Distribution Venue. Ask why, if you visit. This is also serving as the temporary trophy and plaque repository until the expected trophy cases for the outside hallway arrive.

While we're still awaiting furniture for a lot of this area, this is already the main workspace for the team during evening practices. It can comfortably accomodate 30+ students working on different projects. The gray door at the rear leads directly to the parking lot for easy loading and unloading of the vans before and after tournaments.

We can't even begin to describe how nice this part is to have. In addition to the four computer consoles, we have our own secure wireless hub in the squadroom, a photocopier, microwave, and lots of storage space for work materials. The tall trophies ringing the upper shelves are mostly state championship awards from the last decade.

Extempers need their own space.   As you exit the squadroom you'll see notices on the latest travel arrangements, practice schedules, and deadlines for upcoming manuscript reviews and memory checks.

The plywood is gone now, but our own personal outer door is just plain sweet. Did we mention we really like the outer door? The window is to the Acting Assistant Director of Forensics' Office.

We are amused that the renovation did not result in the removal of this little remnant of the building when it was a center for "Industrial Arts." We're thinking this would be a mighty fine place to put people who don't get their pieces memorized by the entry deadline, or don't show up to their practice debates :-)
