Coaches
Kristi Scholten, Director of Forensics and Assistant Professor of Communication
Kristi Scholten did her undergraduate work at Central Michigan University where she competed primarily in individual events. Upon graduation she continued her MA studies at Central Michigan while coaching individual events. Her PhD was completed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she added debate coaching to her resume. Her first full-time coaching and teaching position was at Ferris State University, where she served as Director of Debate and nurtured a parliamentary debate program. While still a “Jack of all Trades” when it comes to forensics, Kristi has focused on developing Truman’s individual events program since her arrival at Truman and she assumed the role of Director of Forensics in June 2009.

Russell Luce, Assistant Director of Forensics and Instructor in Communication
Russ Luce competed as an undergraduate at Central Michigan University in the full range of debate and individual events. While completing a MA degree at Miami University of Ohio, Russ coached individual events. He did PhD studies at the University of Kansas while doing some assistant coaching at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He is in his first year as Assistant Director at Truman working primarily with debate events (Lincoln-Douglas and Parliamentary Debate).
